Cover of Operation M.O.V.E by Leftöver Crack

This is a fundraiser to aid Black Lives Matter movements and protests, 100% of proceeds will be split evenly between The Bail Project and MOVE. This is something we feel strongly about.

MOVE was formed in Philadelphia as a group of black communal activists committed not only to the liberation from racial oppression, in tune with the Black Panther party of the time, but also to environmentalist and back-to-nature ideals. They lived, as they still do today, as a family, taking “Africa” as their shared last name.

On August 8th 1978, Philadelphia police attempted to vacate any MOVE members from Powelton Village House which resulted in an attack ordered by then mayor, Frank Rizzo (who had a reputation of racism and brutality). During this standoff, officer James J. Ramp was shot in the back of the neck by friendly fire which lead to the unjust arrest of Chuck, Delbert, Eddie, Janet, Janine, Merle, Michael, Phil, and Debbie Africa (Move 9) who were charged with third degree murder and any remaining MOVE members relocated in 1981 to Osage Avenue.

May 13th 1985, approx. 500 police officers attempted to storm the building to remove the 13 remaining MOVE members (8 Adults 5 Children) after Mayor Wilson Goode and Police Commissioner Gregore J. Sambor classified MOVE as a terrorist organisation. The police attempted to remove the members using tear gas, fire-arms and set up firing squads for anyone who attempted to escape. After the police had used more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition, Commissioner Sambor ordered the complex to be bombed. When the bombs had been dropped on the building, fire ensued which burned down 65 nearby houses and killed 11 people including 5 children, only 2 members of MOVE survived this onslaught.

"This project, and it’s members, are explicitly
anti-nazi, anti-fascist and anti alt-right.
We want no confusion in this
matter.

If you are racist, sexist, homophobic,
transphobic etc. please do this one favour for
us...

Leave us the fuck alone,
Don’t buy our records.”

lyrics

Philadelphia / Seventy-Eight
Shut down M.O.V.E. / By police state
Forty-five police storm Powellton Village
Government sanctioned rape and pillage
Friendly fire kills officer dead
The M.O.V.E. nine are framed up instead
One dead cop / One officer's gun
Unjust system is yet undone
In spite of efforts dissipated
Until the movement was incinerated

May thirteenth / Eighty-five
Eleven people / Burned alive
They dropped the bomb after liquid was doused
To smoke out the family and burn up the house
Sights trained on exits, the police wait
A firing squad for those who fight to escape
M.O.V.E. fought against exploitation
The state's injustice and their oppression
For these crimes that the city pigs created
The Africa's were incinerated
Sentenced to be incinerated
Sentenced to be incinerated
